Choose your style
Freestyle Dance delivers something for everyone and is a great class to trial if you are a beginner looking to experience dance for the first time. It covers a variety of styles, including: Street, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Lyrical, Contemporary and more.
Our Freestyle dance classes are currently held for Beginners age 4 – 12 years and Intermediate level age 13+ years. The classes are energetic and fun and great for anyone looking to either increase their dance repertoire, try a new style, let their hair down or improve fitness levels.
We follow the RAD (Royal Academy of Dance) Syllabus – the most renowned and widely recognised dance organisation in the world. Ballet is a skilful and disciplined style and the fundamental base for all other dance genres. It works on technique, musicality and performance and builds on strength, co-ordination, posture and the ability to express emotion through movement. We teach Ballet for toddlers (age 3 upwards) to adults.
Ballet Tots is essentially a creative movement class that works on developing the very basic motor skills and social skills children require. It gives them the opportunity for free expression, promotes independence and encourages creativity on many levels. We follow the RAD’s new syllabus for children from the age of 3 – 5 years – Dance To Your Own Tune. It especially inspires them to trust in their own instincts and the two levels it provides, works on the motor skills they are likely to posses at that age; increasing balance, co-ordination, strength and rhythm.
The graded syllabi are usually taught from the age of 5. Starting with pre-primary working up to grade 8. It typically takes between 1 and 2 years to complete each grade, depending on the students class attendance and ability. There are also vocational grades for those who take dance much more seriously and are possibly considering a career in dance.
Adult Ballet classes are available for all levels as well as an alternative exercise class and in class we work on material from the higher grades, vocational grades and new material choreographed by the teacher. The RAD have recently brought out a new collection of work which includes repertoire from well-renowned Ballets. This will be introduced into our adult ballet classes at a later date.
Contemporary dance was developed in the mid twentieth century. It is considered as a dance form of self-expression and allows the dancer to delve deep into their creative skill set, interpreting movement in a completely unique way. In form, Contemporary dance rebels against the restrictions and set ways of Classical Ballet. It is unconventional and provides a platform for a dynamic way of performing.
Our Contemporary dance classes explore the free nature of the style and incorporate other elements of dance such as Modern Jazz, Ballet and Street Dance. There is currently no exam work involved within this class, instead we work on projection, performance, dynamics and emotive dancing.
