My heart sank when my now wife told me she wanted us to take dancing lessons in preparation for the first dance at our wedding, but after some gentle persuasion I came round to the idea. I’ve never been much of a dancer and figured that at least if we took lessons it would look better then the awkward shuffle I usually perform. Having meet up with Laurie to discuss our likes and dislikes my mind was immediately put at ease and we began with our lessons. Laurie worked with us whilst coming up with the ‘routine’ for the dance, showing us a number of options and letting us decide on the ones we were most comfortable with, but at the same time giving us a nudge to learn some of the more intricate (crowd pleasing) moves. All the time conducting herself in a fun and friendly yet professional manner. When the time came on the day of our wedding for the first dance, no one new we had taken lessons. After the first few steps of the ‘routine’ all our guests exploded into applause, whooping whenever I spun or lifted my wife. No one could believe it! To sum up, Laurie did an excellent job, the wedding was amazing but having our first dance choreographed was the cherry on top of the cake. I can’t recommend Laurie highly enough.

Matt and Priya Hopkins16th September 2017 - Prestwold Hall
Where do I start?! When Matt and I first got engaged, I knew I wanted our first dance to be a bit more than us just awkwardly swaying to our favourite song. But when I spoke to Matt, I realised he wasn’t keen on anything too adventurous. I also knew we both had two left feet so would need a lesson (or fifty!!!) before our big day. That’s when I remembered Laurie from the first wedding fair we attended. I have to say that working with Laurie on a routine for our first dance was one of the best decisions we made because she immediately put us at ease and we never once felt silly or judged by her for our lack of rhythm. In fact she was encouraging and very observant! If she could see we were not comfortable with part of the routine, she would immediately come up with an alternative. One piece of advice that Laurie did give us was not to worry about the steps and just to have fun with the routine, something we didn’t think was possible, but when we went to perform the routine in front of all our guests at our wedding, it was so much fun and both Matt and I were completely comfortable doing it. Aside from getting married, I have to say that our first dance was my most favourite part of the wedding and a large part of that is down to Laurie. Thank you so much for everything!!
